File this one under news that should surprise no one: Activision has announced plans to release a new Call of Duty title in 2012.

The non-news comes from today's Activision-Blizzard conference call, during which Bobby Kotick announced the company will be releasing a new Call of Duty title before year's end. No other information was given, but if Activision follows its normal plan, the title will likely be developed by Treyarch, released in the second week of November, and outsell the previous year's Call of Duty by a few million copies. It will likely also have zombies in it. It's like I can see the future!

xxReport: Activision Prepping Black Ops 2

Activision has purchased blackops2.com, suggesting that a sequel to Call of Duty: Black Ops could be in the works. The publisher previously purchased domains up to Black Ops 6, with 2 being noticeably absent from the list, but that domain has now joined Activision's collection.

According to a report by Fusible, the domain is owned by MarkMonitor, an "internet brand protection company" that "caters to over half the Fortune 100, of which Activision is a client." The domain's WhoIs data shows that it was last updated on January 6th.

This could be as simple as Activision protecting its copyright by grabbing the domain early, but considering that Black Ops sold over 14 million copies, a sequel is certainly not out of the question. A recent job listing suggests that a Call of Duty game is in active development, though we don't know if it will be Black Ops 2 or something different entirely.

Black Ops 2 can only be considered a rumor for now, but we've reached out to Activision and will update with any comment we receive.

xxACTA - Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement

Much like with SOPA and PIPA, the ECA has fought the underlying policies behind the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) for years. ACTA is a global trade agreement intended to manage intellectual property rights enforcement. Unfortunately, it is fundamentally unconstitutional, with dramatic privacy, civil and digital rights restrictions.

We ask you now to join with us and sign the petition here: https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions#!/petition/end-acta-and-protect-our-right-privacy-internet/MwfSVNBK, asking the Obama Administration to protect our constitutional rights and end ACTA. We believe that ACTA is a treaty that should be debated by Congress.
